In Oak class we strive to make learning fun, exciting, meaningful and memorable.
Oak class is made up of year 3 and 4 children and are taught by Mrs McParland. The class is supported by a dedicated TA, Mrs Cersell . We also are very lucky to have specialist Art and Music teachers who contribute greatly to the class’s learning opportunities. We enjoy responsibility in Oak class, which we demonstrate by setting up the hall ready for assemblies every morning. Other classroom duties include being register monitor.
Homework is set on a Friday and is due in on the Thursday. Homework consists of maths, grammar/creative and spellings. We encourage you to hear and help develop their understanding of the text by questioning at least three times a week. Home reading books are changed daily if the reading record is signed to say it is finished. Occasionally we will send reading comprehension to accompany the Ginn 360 books.
New for the summer term is a reading challenge. Everytime a pupil reads a book, they record it on a petal or part of a leaf. When the leaf or flower is full, they colour it in and display it on the reading tree. Let us see how full of flowers and leaves the tree will be by the end of term.
PE days for Oak Class are Tuesday and Thursday. The Tuesday PE session is taught by highly qualified sports coach and the lesson is supported by the class teacher and TA. For the summer term, the coach will be focusing on athletics so please make sure your child has their red shorts, plimsolls and white polo shirt in on that day.
We are delighted to announce that the second PE session will be swimming and is taught at a local leisure centre. Please make sure that your child has the correct swimming kit comprising of a non-baggy swimming shorts (boys) or all in one swimsuit (girls), a towel, a swimming hat and bag to keep it all in. We would also recommend sending a small drink and snack as per the school’s Healthy Eating Policy.
